Classic Big Band Jazz Since 1991
Beasley's Big Band has been entertaining audiences since 1991 with their lively performances of classic big band jazz, capturing the essence of legendary musicians such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, and Woody Herman. Their repertoire covers the golden age of big bands, featuring timeless arrangements that have stood the test of time.
The band was founded by the visionary saxophonist Charles Beasley. Over the years, they have honed their craft, mastering the intricate harmonies and infectious rhythms that define big-band jazz. They seamlessly blend traditional arrangements with original compositions penned by Charles Beasley, adding a fresh twist to the genre.
Beasley's Big Band is a popular fixture in the Twin Cities' music scene, playing monthly Swing Dance Nights at popular venues like Brianno’s Chart House and Minneapolis Cider Company. Their energy and talent have made them a favorite among dance enthusiasts. The band also plays for corporate parties, swing dances, charity balls, wedding dances, and summer concerts in Twin Cities’ parks.
Beasley's Big Band features Courtney Burton as the lead vocalist, who enchants the audience with her mesmerizing voice, bringing classic tunes to life. Her love for jazz is evident in her performances, ensuring the preservation of this cherished music genre.
Beasley’s History
The name of the band comes from Chuck Beasley, who was the band's leader, lead alto sax player, and chief musical arranger. The band's classic big band sound can be attributed to Chuck, who arranged the majority of the songs the band plays. Born and raised in North Minneapolis, Chuck played in big bands professionally after leaving the Air Force at the end World War II. He was also an experienced music educator with over 20 years of teaching experience. He received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in music from the University of Minnesota. Even though we lost Chuck to cancer several years ago, his legacy lives on through his music and his joyous spirit that drives the culture of the band to this day.
