A Day Rooted in History

International Jazz Day is the brainchild of legendary jazz pianist and UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock. Established in 2011, it aims to highlight the unique role jazz plays in bringing people together across cultures and continents. Celebrated annually on April 30th, it's a day to appreciate the rich history and ongoing evolution of this incredible art form.

Tangier: A Melting Pot of Music

This year, International Jazz Day sets foot on African soil for the first time. Tangier, a city known for its cultural crossroads between Europe and Africa, is the perfect host. The city boasts a long and fascinating jazz legacy, having welcomed iconic artists like Josephine Baker and Ornette Coleman within its walls.

The All-Star Global Concert: A Star-Studded Celebration

The centerpiece of International Jazz Day is the All-Star Global Concert. This year, the concert will be held at the stunning new Palace of Arts and Culture in Tangier. One particularly exciting addition is Moroccan Gnawa master Abdellah El Gourd. This inclusion beautifully highlights the potential for musical fusion and dialogue between jazz and Morocco's own rich musical traditions.
