About Singing Jazz | Podcast Part 1

KBEM Jazz 88.5 FM's Phil Nusbaum interviewed Courtney Burton as a promotional spot before Court's In Session performed at Jazz Central Studios in Minneapolis, MN. In this interview, Courtney shares her thoughts on how being the vocalist for Beasley's Big Band offers excellent training as a vocalist and how different it is from fronting her jazz combo- Court's In Session.

Courtney stated, "There are big differences between the two. Singing in front of a big band is very, it's this empowering feeling because you've got, in case of BBB, 19 people playing to support you. When I do combo work it, I feel more exposed emotionally musically talent-wise. And I get to connect with the audience in a very different way because we tend to be in smaller venues."

Check out samples of one of her favorite ballads from the latest recording from Beasley's Big Band, Teach Me Tonight featuring Mel Carter Sr on trumpet and Court's In Sessions version of Route 66 featuring Ruben Haugen on saxophone.
